Change can be hard, especially when it comes to technology. But in the words of Gail Sheehy, "If you aren't changing, you aren't growing." This holds true as technology shifts and evolves – and the latest shift will be from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

While Windows 7 has been great, all things must come to end, and the sunset of Windows 7 comes in January 2020. So, what does this mean for you? It means that it's time for you to make the big change. Trust us, it will be worth it.

The  Windows 7 end-of-life essentially means that Microsoft will no longer provide technical assistance or software updates. Keeping Windows 7 puts your cyber security at great risk. With the lack of security updates, there are ample opportunities for malware to find its way on your computer and wreak havoc on your system and data. Cyber security should be one of your company's top priorities, so it's important that you make this change in order to avoid viruses, worms, ransomware, and other forms of malware.

If this isn't quite convincing enough for you, let's look at the perks of the Windows 10 update.

While the benefits are numerous, some of the top perks include:

  • Easier to multitask
  • Automatic updates
  • More secure
  •  Faster
  • Modern
  • And more!

If you aren't quite sure what operating system your computer is running on, follow these simple steps to find out:

  1. Click the start button in the bottom left corner of your screen.
  2. You don't have to find a search bar, just start typing "System Information" and press enter.
  3. Look for the "OS Name" item (it should be the first one on the list).
  4. In the value column it will show what operating system you're using. If it says, "Windows 7", then you need to upgrade.

You must upgrade to Windows 10 before January 14, 2020 or risk security vulnerabilities.

The opportunity to upgrade to Windows 10 for free ended in 2016, so it's important to make sure there is room in your budget for this update. It might even make more sense to replace your computer than to upgrade it. If you need assistance making this determination, our experienced IT specialists are here to help!
